Give Thanks DJ P!! I wasn’t sold on phrasing being as valuable as it is until you explained.
When practicing, I actually try to mix “against the grain” as well as “in the pocket” in order to prepare for any circumstance. I can’t deny, staying in the pocket always sounds better but I don’t want to be predictable.
I also noticed you never “rubbed” the record or gripped the stem in the middle of the vinyl, to adjust the speed/pitch. It makes a difference. Also adding that to my toolbox.
I appreciate both of you Senseis for sharing your knowledge and wisdom!
Rubbing the record to make a song speed up or slow down is an immediate way of making an adjustment but “riding the pitch” dial as DJ P would say, is the smoothest spporach to keep two songs locked. Respect.
