PREPPING TIPYou’re free to get creative in the pre-production stages of organizing your ideas. Meaning, you’re at liberty to use software like iMovie, ProTools, Logic, Ableton, etc., to rearrange the elements of the song. This way, you can outline your lyrics, sound effects, and drum beats in a way that’s a custom fit to the way you decide on outlining your beat juggles. So for example, where MC Shan says “Marley” or “if you think you can beat him,” you’re free to replace Marley’s name with your DJ name or swap “him” for “her,” and then copy and past 8 bars of the intro drums, followed by another line featuring Shan poppin’ boasting about his DJ, etc. This way you don’t have to be hitting the cue pads on your mixer as much and just focus what your hands need to do on the Serato Control Records.
Whether you’re a relative beginner learning our basic 10 root movements of beat juggling or a more experienced student, look at this tournament as a challenge to yourself. This is for FUN and you’ll receive constructive feedback on your composition from our expert panel of judges. Don’t be intimidated to participate. The only way to grow as a DJ is to take on these kinds of challenges. So, feel encouraged and give them an example of how a DJ works!
