  Hi, i’am wondering is this move is same thing as chase pattern with fills on both hands ? I can do the chase with fills and im a bit confused about that 🙂

    Be careful about confusing Shortkut’s “Chase” pattern with the 8th Note Linear Triplet Fills.

    The “Chase” pattern requires you to drop the quarter note and the eighth note. So if you start the “Chase” on your right turntable you’re getting a “one and” on your initial launch and then the left turntable chases the right turntable with the same “one and”. Then you swap back to the right turntable and release a “two and” and then the left turntable chases the right turntable with the same “two and”.

    But 8th Note Linear Triplet Fills demand you launch one note per swap, “one” (right turntable), “one” (left turntable, “two” (right turntable), “two” (left turntable). So if you’re starting on the right turntable, you first you drop the quarter note then drop the same quarter note on the left turntable. From there you swap back to the right and drop the eight note and then drop the same eighth note sound on the left turntable. In other words, it alternates, quarter note fill (right turntable), quarter note fills (left turntable), eighth note fill (right turntable), eighth note fill (left turntable)…

    There’s a difference and if you’re listening and watching correctly it’s easy to hear and see the difference.

  The 8th note linear triplet fills sound the sam as a chase on the “Oh My God” Tribe Called Quest track. can you explain the difference. Thanks.

    Brian, I encourage you to open 2 windows in your browser. On the left window, access Root Movement #7, the Chase pattern. Cue up the 8th note linear triplet fills in the right window. Compare my hands during the “Oh My God” segment of the tutorial during the execution of the 8th note linear triplet fills in the right window to my hand movements when I Chase in the left window. You’ll quickly notice my hands are moving a lot more during the 8th note triplet fills. Also, the 8th note linear triplet fills sound way busier than Chases. The difference is very obvious. Eighth note triplet fills and Chase patterns definitely sound different.
