I can’t wait to get this one down. Gonna take some time for sure. But yo, Rob, I have to send thanks to you from my wife. I like to DJ for her while she’s working from home. These last few weeks I’ve just been having Stezo Stezo Stezo haha and she was going crazy while I was learning some of these patterns. But then the last couple days, once I was feeling pretty confident with the first 8 patterns, I just got down and started mixing some records, and throwing in a little juggle here and there on different songs. It’s been a game changer for my mixing, and the crowd of one was absolutely HYPE man! She LOVED it! Been Doing 25 years, and I’m in love with it all over again in a whole new way. Absolutely priceless, my man. I can’t thank you enough. When my subscription ends, I’m renewing as a lifetime member.
Also, 8th note linear singles on Nice and Smooth’s “Old to the New” is the best thing ever.
Awesome LoRok. You’ll get this down and you’ll move on in the other course curriculum and eventually conquer those as well. It’s about staying consistent. Looking forward to seeing you enter one of our future challenges and seeing how you’re articulating what I’m teaching you guys at Brolic Army DJ School.
Rob, I see what you are saying regarding opening the fader first. I was grabbing the record first. Back to practice to get it right. Great class as they all are.
The majority of DJs who learn the 8th Note Double Fills for the first time can’t help grabbing the record before opening the fader. It’s a habit that you gotta break for this specific move. You gotta trust the sound is gonna before there as soon as you open the fader, THEN GRAB THE RECORD to fill the snare a second time.
YOOOO PEACE7 BROLIC ARMY FAMILY I’M HAVING A BLAST LEARNIG THE 8TH NOTE LINEAR DOUBLE FILLS IT WAS VERY CHALLENGING BUT THANKS TO ROB SWIFT HIS TEACHINGS ARE PHENOMENAL HE BREAKS IT DOWN TO THE LAST COMPOUND SALUTE ROB
Respect Lamont! Glad you’re enjoying my teaching style. I’m even happier to know you’re conquering the 8th Note Linear Double Fills. You’re right, it is challenging but mastering it is also worth the challenge. Once you feel comfortable, practice landing the move at positive 8 on both turntable pitch dials. You want to be able to execute the move at varying speeds.
I had to use a controller to really slow down Sucka MCs and not only build up my hand speed but also figure out exactly how this move works. I was having trouble discerning if you move the crossfader over first, let that snare hit, then grab that snare and fill or if it was the other way around. But the funny thing that I learned even when slowing it way down to about 80bpms is it’s still not easy to catch the fills if you don’t work on your rhythm and timing. I really thought this one would probably take me months to learn because I can’t even scratch super fast but I watched this video over and over and slowly built up to being able to get it in about a week and a half with some perseverance. Still working on cleaning it up and getting it right every single time but I know that will come. Honestly, proud of myself for sticking with it.
